Finding her nerve, Angelique scrambled to her feet and took off down the boat with the crowd, pushing people out of her way if they didn't move fast enough. She passed Gale, but didn't stop, merely swerving around the boy as she headed down under the deck. He had powers, let him fend for himself.

She passed a rather out of shape, bearded man, elbowing him aside. "Move it old man," she snapped, managing to get a grip on the door frame as the boat rocked, tilting to the side. With a scream, Angelique slipped, gripping the edge of the boat until it had righted itself and she was able to pull herself back over onto the deck, panting.

Cursed water interfering with her powers!

Alexis wasted no time in conversations, pulling Pala up and leading her to the center of the boat. After she was assured that the woman would live, she led Pala to the entryway to the decks below, “You’re still injured, please wait here” She said in a flat tone, running off towards the giant sea serpent. She couldn’t stand around. She had to do something, or else they could all die. She didn’t want to die out here…. She was just about to leap at the serpent when she skid to a stop. What the $@$@#$ was she going to do? Her magic was gone! She cursed to herself, feeling rather helpless, eyes darting around at the deck, looking for something…. Anything she could use. …

She raced up to a fallen soldier, knocked over by the attack, and pulled a bundle of rope connected to a heavy metal dart. She glanced at it for a moment, then back to the serpent. Spinning the rope to build up momentum, she let the dart fly at the serpent, for it to knock against it uselessly. Frowning as she pulled the dart back she gave up on it’s intended use as her means of reaching the creature and leapt over the side towards it, digging the dart in with her hand to get some sort of grip as her other hand scrambled for a hold. Fingers digging into a hard, skeletal scale on its back, she tried to figure out what the hell she was going to do next.

The climb to the head was a trick little task. The beast swayed and jolted, ramming the boat with it's side and head. He was going to fall off if he didn't distract it. That, and he didn't need to run out of slack and get dragged off the beast.

How to get to the head, then? An idea struck him, but it made his stomach churn. "I should'a just stayed on the boat..." staring down the water, Coden assured himself. Then grabbed the slack of his life line, wrapped it tight around his arm and yanked out out of the hands of the bender on the boat.

Watching the other end slide over the ledge of the rope and into the water, Coden felt an impending doom hover over him. There was no going back. Loosing the ropes from his arm, Coden held a wide loop in one hand. Swung it a few times and waited for the beats to rear it's ugly head. Quite literally. As it dove towards the boat, Coden loosed the ropes and watched with a appeasement as the loop landed lazily on the creatures long nose.

To Coden's surprise, The creature bucked it's head, taking Coden for an unpleasant ride. Cursing aloud, he was swung once...twice...three times in the air before landing with a hard 'oof' upon the beasts nose. It's retaliation causing it's own binding. the rope tightly wrapped around it closed maw. Dizzy and feeling a little sick again, Coden held fast to the rope bound around the creatures maw, trying to right the world and make it stop spinning for a half a second as he tried to keep from getting shaken off.

The boy was trying his hardest to get to the monster. But he couldn't think of the things that Alexis and Coden did. He thought of flying, but without a second wing to complete the pair, he could do no such thing. He darted about the deck of the boat, dodging people and benders. There was so much mayhem, and panic, how did he get up there?

An idea struck him. He ran to the railings, not impended by the people who had already fled. Coden was up there. Gale could get up too.

He waited until the right moment. Then he leapt. It was a sorry jump, not even putting him in close range of the beast. However, a blast of power from his hands had him soaring, albeit gracefully, to the beast, clutching on once his power no longer drove him.

His head pounded, but he scrambled up the beast, whose fighting and shaking double since its maw was tied up. Using the scales as handholds, he clambered up to the maw where Coden was.

There was think inkling of an idea, something he had thought of long ago to a beast similar but not the same as this. But he couldn't remember precisely what it was. Only that he needed to get into from the mouth. Or... did he?

A quick glance to the rolling black eyes of the beast, Twice as large as the small child. He just needed in the beast. With on last look at Coden, he jumped away, took and deep breath and ran into the monster's eyes. It roared, thrashing multiplied. But Gale would not be unhinged as he worked his way into the sea creature's eye.

Alexis’ plan seemed to have failed miserably, as the creature began to thrash around. Unable to climb up higher and unable to get off, all she could do was hold on for dear life as it’d thrash around in the water. In and out and in and out she couldn’t think strait as the scene kept changing. Barely able to get a breath before under she went, clinging to the serpent as it was the only thing underwater she could see. Her grip became weaker with each thrashing, as she frantically tried getting a better grip before the next slam down into the water.

Suddenly there was a massive spasm that shot through the creature, a horrible sound bellowed through the air. Alexis craned her neck to try to see what had caused the beast to cry out like that when suddenly the part of the serpent she clung to was slammed hard down into the water. Dazed from the hit, she found the fin slipping through her fingers, out of grasp and out of her sight. She couldn’t tell which way the serpent was, which direction the surface was, or where the boat was. All that was around her in every direction was a blue darkness.

She became frantic, arms flailing around as she tried to find the surface. Her newfound powers were no help this far below, and she kept trying to teleport up to the ship, but even now, her powers refused to help her. Her hands burned as the cuts reopened, sending salty water painfully against the cuts. Her lungs began to burn as she quickly ran out of oxygen. She kept trying to find the surface, even as her arms and legs grew tired. An inky blur began to fog up her vision as her thoughts drifted, her fears of the nothingness represented through the water blinding her reason. She couldn’t die here… not like this… not on a world like this…. Not without…. Not without telling…. Telling him……….

Her vision blurred as chilling sea water began to pour into her lungs, pulling her away from the action above.

Pala stood helpless, too afraid to even move, she watched Coden, Gale and Alexis strugle with the beast, all trying their beast to keep themselves and everyone else alive. And she was just too scared. After that venture into the sea below them, she was terrified of it happening again...

Dammit, she was the only one with water magic, why wasn't she using it!? She had plenty of fun with it before, and now she had to use it where it really mattered, or they'd all drown!
Summoning what little courage Pala had, she stepped towards the edge, trying to ignore the salt stinging her back and her feeling immensely ill.
Alexis was the immediate concern, and Pala was worried that she was too late to help. Having to take her chances, she grabbed at water deep below, and sent random pullses upwards, hopefully pulling anything that they caught up to the top. Once, nothing, twice, still nothing, a third time and she still couldn't find alexis! With desperation, she made a massive surge of water rise to the surface, and Alexis was lifted up, almost unconscious, spluttering and coughing. Immediately Pala formed a pillar of ice that lifted Alexis to the edge of the boat, and pulled her onboard.
The serpent was still thrashing around, and it needed to stay still for Coden and Gale to do any good.
Once again, grabbing at the water below, she flash froze the water around the serpent from below the surface, for it to lift up it's body. Only the head was left unfrozen. Unable to stay upright anymore, the frozen serpent fell sidewards with a massive splash.
"Quick! Finish it before it breaks free!"

It was like being underwater, but thicker. Like being trapped in mud. He couldn't breathe, he couldn't see. He was stuck in this little tunnel leading farther and farther back into the beast's skull. He couldn't turn back - it was too small, not enough room to turn in. He was running out of breath, desperately clawing his way up, up, up through the eye socket, grappling onto the gooey interior, pulling, yanking his body and flailing legs further in.

Finally, vision clouding and body failing, he got to where he needed to be. A wave of the hand, bumping at the beast's brain stem. Gale grabbed at it, wrapping tiny fingers around and digging in. Without a thought, it exploded. The power traveled up the convulsing beast's head and into the brain, splattering it, cracking the skull and blowing him back in the process.

There. He had done it. No more moving, no more anything from the beast. It was dead. The boy froze, suddenly realization dawning over him.

How was he supposed to get out?

There was a moment when the beast paused in it's irate flailing. A breath of a moment that gave Coden enough berth to fasten himself more securely to the creatures Maw, Tugging on the ropes that bound it like reins. As if it would do much to help, he told himself. At least it wasn't trying to eat people or tear the ship up more.

As he was taking advantage of the tiny sliver of time, Coden help but be curious. And from the corner of his sight saw Gale. Clawing his way into the eyes of the beast. It was such a shocking sight that he'd nearly forgotten his position, risking being thrown off when the beast resumed it's thrashing.

Swinging it's head and bashing it's own skull against the boat and ice like an animal gone crazy. Nearly crushing Coden in the process until it finally just stopped, frozen neck down in a surge of ice. And then finally just dropped dead against the pummeled ice sheet.
For a long moment of silence, Coden stare widely at the lifeless face of the creature. Dis-concerned with the cracking ice beneath the beast. Waiting for something while the rest of the boats passengers cheered.

Stumbling up the creatures face to the open, oozing eyes sockets, Coden jumped right in. Frantically digging through the mess of gore. A long slur of worried Arabic and Celtic passing his lips incoherently.

Angelique had managed to scramble her way back away from the railing toward the inner parts of the deck. There she had spotted a column of ice dropping Alexis back on the boat while Pala froze the creature as well.

Now why hadn't she done that earlier?

Regardless, Angelique decided to risk going over to make sure her ticket home was still alive and breathing. A slight something twinged in her mind at that thought, again just below the surface and out of reach. That was starting to get really annoying. As she went, there was a ruckus up by the head and the creature seemed to slump over. Well that was one hurdle jumped.

Kneeling by the drenched and lightly frosted girl, Angelique snapped her fingers by her face, careful to keep her nails out of the way.

"You had better be alive there..."

Alexis turned away from Angelique, violently coughing up the water from her lungs onto the deck. Collapsing back down again as her vision slowly slid back into focus. She continued to cough up water and shivered from the cold. She hated the water, she hated the water, she hated the water, she hated, hated, hated the water. She was never going to jump into a fight with a sea monster with no plan. And no powers… Not attacking monsters over the water without her powers again. Stupid stupid water…

As she curled up on the deck, the shore could be seen on the horizon. It wouldn’t be long before they arrived in the city. The crowd started to disperse, more focused on getting their families and possessions together, trying to figure out where they would go once they got onto shore.

He tried finding his way out. He really did. But the blast from earlier drained him. His oxygen levels were so low... Frantically, he yanked and pulled at a bit of split skull, fingers slipping through the ooze and blood. He coughed, blood and small chunks of flesh rushing down his throat, not the air that he so desperately needed.

HE panicked, flailing and struggling, his lungs on fire, bile on his tongue. OUT! He needed out! But his arms became heavy, his head as clogged as his lungs were becoming.

No control. His mouth opened, swallowing down everything but what he needed - air.

No longer could he fight against the skull and the blood and the gore. His arms fell limp, his eyes closed. There was the smell of pink and he heard laughter from a forgotten time, the air on his face and wings. He smiled as his world went black.

Digging through the mess, Coden began to believe Gale had become apart of the gore. It was just a whimsical thought; one that frightened him. Really....really scared him. "Trooper! Damn it, where are you..." He pushed in further. Dug deeper. His hands brushed over something mistakable for bone, but firmer. With a heave, He slipped backwards out of the disgusting mess, dragging a not so lively Gale with him.

Scrambling over the little boys body, Coden wiped his little face with his sleeve. Slapped him gently and shook him eagerly. "Gale! Gale! Come on, Trooper. Open your eyes, damn it!" He paused and lowered himself to the boys face. Listened. And felt his heart plummet.

He almost panicked. He wanted to, but Coden was stubborn. "No. No...not now. I won't let you!" He cursed softly, arranging himself besides Gales body. Pulling away the neck of Gale's clothes, he checked his pulse. The boy wasn't dead. Yet.
Scrambling to remember the basic training he'd never used, Coden tilted Gales head back, pinched his nose and began to perform CPR.

Leaning over the rail, she peered at the corpse of the serpent, whhich was beginning to sink.
"They're...still in there. We need to get them out, fast."
Quickly, she raised a slope of water and froze it. Looking back at angelique and alexis with a pleading look, she pointed down. "I'm not the best person to do this right now. One of you, slide down and get them out. I'll keep the serpent afloat until you're all back up here!"
She began to form a raft of ice around the body, to keep it afloat.

Angelique glared at Pala, crossing her arms. "I'm sure that they're more than capable of taking care of themselves," she snapped. "Alexis just nearly drowned and I'm not going over there."

She noticed Alexis moving toward the bridge and caught her arm.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Angelique mentally groaned. Of course...that stupid kid and her boyfriend...of course she wouldn't just leave it. She could try to convince her, but the girl wouldn't listen...she never seemed to, at least. With a slight growl, Angelique jerked Alexis' arm back.

"Sit," she snapped, going over to the edge. She hesitated for a moment, looking down at the ice and water with distaste and distrust before stepping out onto the bridge, slowly making her way up to the creature's head so as not to slip into the water.

"I swear I'm going to end up killing all of these idiots before we leave here if we don't get out soon..."

Reaching the top, she spotted the mess of...well she really didn't want to think about what all that grime was clinging to them. Coden had pulled himself and Gale out of the eye and was now giving the kid CPR.

"Not to interrupt this touching scene, but you might want to grab him and come on...the carcass is sinking."

Alexis pushed herself off of the floor to try to get Coden and Gale, but was shoved back down by Angelique. She tried to protest, but as she drew in the air to complain, she bent back over, wracked by another painful series of coughing. She watched from where she sat in her slumped over state as Coden brought Gale onto the deck. He wasn’t breathing… %@$@#^….

She shivered as she edged over towards where Coden was resuming his attempts of CPR, feeling rather sick and helpless. Normally she would summon up her magic to reverse time on Gale, and he’d be as good as new… But she couldn’t… All she could do was watch… She hated this… She really hated this…

Some vague point in his mind, Gale realized that he was dying. He was dying. He was dying. And... it was all right. His body was slipping away from him leaving him weightless and free. It was amazing. Like he was floating on a cloud.

He could still feel the wind in his face as he flew up, wings - both flesh - pumped, each flap revitalizing him. Up and up, to the clouds and the sun, glowing hot and warming his dark skin.

He was dying and he knew it. It felt good... out side of this weight trying to drag him back down. Of course, he fought against it, enjoying this freedom with his wings.

But the weight kept getting heavier.

Breath, look listen, feel, pulse, repeat. Coden did this multiple times. He couldn't remember, he hadn't been counting. Should he have? Giving his head a defiant shake, he resumed his activities. Fingers stuffed down the back of Gales throat to ensure there was no blockage of the child's air way. Nothing. And he still wasn't breathing. His pulse was getting lower. Coden was on the verge of screaming. Pala's suggestive comment beyond him didn't help his present state.

"Are you insane! Do you know how risky that is!?" He didn't trust their new bending abilities. They were too new to it. Anything could go wrong! Gale's stomach and lungs could end up blown up like a balloon and burst or worse. "You're not touching him!"
He'd have trusted them more if the situation wasn't so grave.

Huddling over the boy again, Coden gave the child breath. Then jerked back and spat while tilting Gales head to the side. A mouthful of lumpy ooze spilling from Gales bluish lips.

He was getting there. Almost to the clouds, where the dragons were. There were no demons, here. He knew that somehow. There was no pain or sorrow. He would always have a full tummy and be happy.

But just as he was about to reach the clouds, the weight pulled him down. Gale's body convulsed, gurgling and gasping sounds coming from his throat.

More and more he fell, plummeting. He screamed. The weight pressed upon him, squeezing and stretching at the same time.

And then, all at once, he was back in his body, looking up at Coden's face too close to his. And he couldn't breathe. Pushing the man away, the boy rolled over and vomited.

Gasping and coughing, it felt as if he was too full in all the wrong places with all the wrong things. He coughed, tears stinging at his eyes as bile and gore rose from in him, slithering over his throat and tongue. He spat it up on the floor, coughing, gasping with horror as he thought he was drowning in the air.

Coughing more, vomiting more, sea monster gore getting replaced with air too slowly. His arms shook and he collapsed to his elbows, drool running out of the side of his mouth. There was more still in there. He hawked and hacked, finally spitting up a small lump of flesh. Then his arms gave way and he collapsed in the pile of gore and vomit, shaking and breathing as if there wasn't enough air in the world, eyes closed to shut everyone out.

It... was going to be so peaceful, so painless. After all that pain was over. His chest wouldn't be hurting, he wouldn't smell his own vomit anymore and he wouldn't be tasting these disgusting things.

It was... He was... so close...

Coden stare Widely at Gale when the boys eyes finally opened after what felt like forever. He almost grabbed the boy into his arms then and there, but let him empty his stomach of bile and sea monster remnants a like first. All while patting and caressing Gales back fervently, to distract himself from glomping the living child.

It was a difficult thing to resist, though. He'd nearly lost Gale. They all did. All he wanted more than anything was to hold him and now he was really there and not just daydreaming to avoid a grave reality.

When Gale finally collapsed, Coden couldn't take it any longer. He dragged Gale out of the mess on the deck and hugged the child tightly in his arms. Petting his messy hair and hugging his shakey body close. Rocking on his knees, hunched over Gales tiny body, as he muttered softly. Trying to control the undertone of distress in his voice.
"Stupid...stupid boy..." He cursed in place of kinder words that played in his mind. "Don't scare me like that...don't EVER scare me..."

He felt silly worrying so much over one little life. He must have looked crazy. It wasn't like him at all, but he cared about something. He cared about it a lot. He looked up and saw people staring, it really made him feel awkward now. A little embarrassed and foolish. "Don't just stand there! Get him a blanket or something!"
His order, and appearance as an earth bender guard, set the crowd off. Most of them dispersing to follow his order.

Alexis was rather hurt with Coden’s exclamation. She knew deep down that she shouldn’t try to use her new powers now, but when he said it… it hurt. She couldn’t do anything to help. He didn’t even want her to try… Anything she could do at this point would just make the situation worse… Her powers were gone, replaced with something that only seemed to be destructive… All she had done so far while she was here was a combination of uselessness, stupid antics that almost led to her demise, or attack the others….

She picked herself onto her unsteady feet. She edged away from the crowd, back towards the cart. She gathered up their scant belongings, and made her way back to the others. A plan formulating, spurred unknowingly from the shadows in the depths of her mind, who's influence was growing ever so slightly due to the girl’s emotional turmoil. It fed her thoughts of doubts and insecurity, and grew as the girl's own influences shrunk. She set the bags down by Coden, and sat back down by him, fingers hesitantly running through Gale’s hair. “…..Is he going to be ok?” Alexis whispered tentatively.

The boy shook and trembled in Coden's arms, wanting to push away from the man. But oxygen deprived muscles refused to acknowledge his wants and he only stayed there, shaking, still sputtering. A small growl came up at Coden's admonishing words - he couldn't tell Gale what the boy could or could not do. But it only sounded like another gurgle as he sputtered up more bile from the taste in his mouth

Opening it once more, he turned about and spat, the disgusting having him spit more and more. After a couple minutes, he coughed once more, wiped away the drool and gave up, sinking into Coden's arms hesitantly.

Wait. Wait, Coden said... he said that... Gale's stomach dropped. He said that he would hurt him to protect him. Coden!? Would he?! No! He - but he did last time! He did! Gale couldn't stay here! He would hurt Gale! He would he did it last time!

With a voice shot by the vomiting and coughing, he cried out hoarsely, "L... leggo! Lemmego!" The shaking arms pressed against the broad chest as he tried as hard as he could to escape. He didn't want to get hit, he couldn't fit back he was weak and everyone knew it he had to get away get away get away get safe. In the boy's rising panic, he did barely registered the fingers scratching his mess of hair, matted together with the goop from the beast's brain. It was enough, the feeling to calm him for a second before the implicit memory came - the head scratchies right before the broken ankle. "Lemmegoooo!" He coughed out, pushing hard against Coden's chest with his elbow.

Coden looked timidly between a Gale and Alexis. Holding the child Firmly as he squirmed. He pondered over her question, wondering if Gale would be alright. Gods, he hoped so. He didn't think he could feel so wretched as he did when Gale had stopped breathing. He'd had control over Gales life when he'd beaten the boy. This kind of thing, he hadn't had control over. It had to be pure luck he managed to resuscitate the boy. So in all naturalization, he didn't answer Alexis. Simply stare at the messy deck beneath him as Gale squirmed and shifted against him.

It was when Gale forced hoarse words out that Coden payed the boy more attention. Let go; He probably should. He didn't want to though. Only when Gale elbowed him did it seem to register to Coden that Gale really...really didn't want to be near him. It hurt. He almost lost his...He almost lost Gale, again. He did all he could to save him. Gale still wouldn't trust him.

"Fine..." He bit his tongue, his tone coarse and a bit spiteful. A more hurtful string of words just hanging from the tip of his tongue. He sucked them back in, knowing it was only because he was hurting that he was hating.

It was about that time that someone finally rummaged up a blanket and brought it over. And it was that unfortunate person that received Coden's wrath. Cursing heavily at the person for taking so long, and throwing the blanket at Gale, messily covering him.
"Clean yourself off...or don't...I don't care...disgusting..."

He didn't look as mad as he sounded. Holding an expression as blank and lonely as a empty canvas. Picking himself up, He brushed off knees and quietly departed to the far side of the boat, away from the crowd and away from his companions.

Gale did not like the tone in Coden's voice. It didn't scare him, but it made him uneasy. As if he had done something wrong when he knew he hadn't. Gale just didn't want Coden to hurt him anymore cause Gale needed protection. The boy decided not to think on it, just... get his legs back. Then he would try to jump into the water.

For now, he continued spit up the disgusting takes, dry heaving every now and then. Siting next to Alexis, he wiped his face off and hair down. Ew. So gross. But Coden's voice was still in his ears.

"Why was he mad..." He wondered aloud to himself, forgetting that Alexis was right next to him. "I... I jus' didn' wanna get hit..."

Then he wondered why he should be thinking of that. He was alive... he was getting his strength back with each breath he took. Though shaky, he could still protect himself, if need be. Ok... that last part was a tiny lie, but still.

Pala had already left to be by herself. She was beginning to feel very ill, and she realised she was still wet. Casually pulling all the water from her body, she formed into a small ball and tossed it aside, to harmlessly splash against the floor.
Her back had started paining again, the salty seawater she been soaked in had stung terribly.
She...had tried her best to help, but nevertheless she felt hopelessly excluded...it was her own fault. She huddled to herself in a small cabin that was rarely visited, and fell to sleep, alone. She would be left that way, if she had any luck.
